Hi, it’s Mike with AllBrite Pressure Washing & More. If you’re new here, we showcase satisfying pressure washing and gutter cleaning jobs, and share helpful tips and tricks to keep your home looking its best.

In today’s video, I’m working on an Ipe walkway. Ipe, also known as Brazilian walnut, is an exotic hardwood that hails from Central and South America. It's renowned for its incredible density, durability, and resistance to decay and insects, which makes it a premium choice for outdoor decking and walkways.

Before we get started, let's talk a little more about Ipe. This wood is so dense that it actually sinks in water. It has a natural resistance to fire, which is almost as effective as concrete or steel. Because of its durability, Ipe can last up to 75 years or more with proper maintenance. This makes it a sustainable option for those who want longevity from their outdoor structures.

Today, I’ll be using a moderate amount of even pressure to clean off the accumulated dirt and algae from this Ipe walkway. It’s important to use a steady, even pressure to avoid damaging the wood’s surface. You’ll notice how the dirt and algae buildup gradually fades away, revealing the wood’s rich, natural tones.

As I work, you can see the transformation in real-time. The grime that once dulled the wood’s appearance is being stripped away, showcasing the beautiful grain and natural color of the Ipe beneath. It's incredibly satisfying to watch the walkway come back to life.

After cleaning, you can apply an oil-based stain to protect and enhance the wood. It's important to not over-apply; only one coat is necessary. If there is an existing stain on the Ipe, it will need to be stripped, and in some cases, the wood might need to be brightened before applying a fresh coat.
