Hi Everyone and welcome to another Workbench Session.
In this video I’m upgrading a set of Hornby coaches that are actually from the ‘Talisman’ train set. I obtained them on eBay split from the set.
The three coaches are newer than the Blood and Custard ones I worked on in my last workbench video.
These already have metal wheels but have Tension Lock couplings that I want to replace with Hunt Elite Couplings.
The couplings and bogie set up on these coaches is made as a one piece moulding, so the modification will require a small amount of cutting to remove some plastic parts.
But don’t worry, it’s easy.
These new couplings are different in that the magnetic coupler is not made as a rigid one piece item, but is fitted with a swivel mechanism, allowing for more flexibility on curves and multiple points.
Each coach should take no more than half an hour to modify if you are new to this sort of work. But if you are more experienced or once you’ve done the first coach you can cut that time in half at least.
All you will need to carry out this upgrade besides the couplings of course, are a set of decent cutters, a sharp craft knife, (I use a small battery rotary cutter, but it’s not essential), a small file or sand paper, and some superglue.
The results are excellent. Closer coupling along with improved ease of use on the track and more reliable running.
Another enjoyable and successful workbench session.
If I don’t see you before…… All my best wishes to everyone for Christmas and for 2022 🎄🎅🏼🍾
Regards ….. Steve 👍👍👍👍
