It is really easy to make convincing stained glass windows for your model buildings, and you don’t need anything special to achieve it!

In this video I will show how I used simple and cheap materials to make realistic stained glass windows for the model I am scratch building for my N Gauge model railway layout, Chandwell.

Stained glass, when seen from the outside, is dark and not very colourful.

Even when lit from the inside, the stained glass is only semi-transparent.

I wanted to find a way of making model stained glass windows that looked good from the outside without any interior illumination. But I ended up finding that the stained glass really shone realistically when there’s a light inside too.

I tried a few different techniques but found one that is incredibly easy. You don’t need acetate. Just some photo paper and a photo of a stained glass window.

I really enjoyed making this stained glass and in this video I show you the steps I took whilst trying out different stained glass approaches when making my N Gauge scratch-built model for the back of my layout.
