Sophie's Taste is a small, cozy restaurant run by Jessica in Chasingre, Tura near NEHU campus and named after her daughter, Sophie. The restaurant offers a rotating menu of authentic Naga thalis, priced at ₹250 per plate, along with a delightful selection of milkshakes priced between ₹70-100. Jessica also has her own line of homemade edible items such as dried gooseberry candies and Sumec powder.

Today, we tried the pork axone thali, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The thali came with a hearty serving of rice, machihan (brinjal cooked with tomatoes, chilies, fermented fish and Sichuan pepper leaves), fried dry shrimp with pounded spices, ghost chili chutney, mango pickle, boiled squash and cucumber as well as some tangy Sumec powder tea.

The food is wholesome, home-cooked, and absolutely bursting with flavor. The ghost chili chutney brought that fiery kick, while the machihan was a revelation—think of it as a Naga twist on baingan ka bharta, with rich, unique flavors you don’t come across often. The pork was incredibly tender, with the axone (fermented soybean) seeping into every bite, making it deliciously aromatic and deeply flavorful.
