2025 Volkswagen ID.2ALL GTI - The Future of Electric Hot Hatchbacks!

"Will the 2025 Volkswagen ID.2ALL GTI Revolutionize the Electric Car Market?"

Volkswagen is stepping up its electric vehicle game with the 2025 ID.2, a new model that promises to be a game-changer in terms of affordability and design. Currently, Volkswagen’s electric models, like the ID.3, are priced higher than many consumers can afford. The ID.2 aims to fix that by targeting a price under 25,000 euros (or even less than £20,000 in the UK), making it much more accessible to the average buyer. This marks VW’s first significant step in their MEB Entry project, a plan announced back in 2019 to deliver affordable EVs under 20,000 euros. The ID.2 is essential to Volkswagen’s goal of making 80% of its European sales pure-electric by 2030, and it will be produced alongside models from Skoda and Cupra.

The ID.2 will compete with models like the Peugeot e-208, Vauxhall Corsa Electric, and the future Renault 5 EV. The interior of the ID.2all concept shows how Volkswagen plans to mix affordability with technology. The cabin features two large screens—a 10.9-inch driver display and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen—offering customizable themes that even include a nostalgic "Vintage" mode that mimics old VW dashboards. Unlike previous models, the ID.2 brings back physical controls for key functions, like adjusting the temperature and volume, addressing criticisms of overly complicated touch controls in older models.

The design of the ID.2 takes a simpler, more traditional approach, with clean lines and a shape that could easily be mistaken for a conventional VW supermini. A nod to past VW models like the Beetle and Polo is clear, with hidden rear door handles and a classic C-pillar design. Despite its compact size, the ID.2 offers a practical interior. It boasts a 440-liter boot, larger than that of the ID.3, with adjustable floor height and a 50-liter hidden compartment for storing and charging items like laptops.

Power-wise, the ID.2all concept is equipped with a 223bhp motor, giving it a 0-62mph time of around seven seconds. Buyers will have two battery options: 38kWh and 56kWh, with the larger battery expected to offer a range of up to 280 miles. Fast-charging capabilities allow the battery to go from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes, thanks to its 125kW charging capacity.

Volkswagen is not only focused on the ID.2; they have also announced plans for a similarly sized electric SUV and an even cheaper EV with a price target below 20,000 euros, although the latter is not expected until 2027. With the ID.2, Volkswagen is taking major steps to make electric vehicles more affordable and appealing to a wider market, which could be a significant moment in the shift toward an all-electric future.
