20 years after my first visit when I went trekking to Thanamir village and onward to Mt. Saramati. Road was built in 2009 and the pleasure and thrill of riding the gateway to the highest mountain peak in Nagaland is a wish fulfilled.
Under the foothills of Mt. Saramati between India and Myanmar is where the annual Apple festival is held by the locals showcasing their organic produce. The story behind the first Apple tree in 80's is ironic and interesting friendship gesture which all must listen to first hand from the village.
The missionaries work is exemplary and stands testimony to the good work as I observed visiting after 20 years when there was no road or missionaries presence.
I enjoyed the morning rendezvous with the mithuns who came for their dose of salt and seeing the smiles of the children at the Primary school.
Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and rest to the weary bones at the NBCC Guest house is like 5 star luxury in the most remote frontier land of Nagaland India.
There are many other places in Kiphire under Pungro sub-division area the deserves a visit . . . Like Salomi, Fakim, Khongjiri, Mimi and Hakkumote village.
