Description:
Color correction can make or break your videos, and if done properly, your videos will look more professional and just a whole lot more pleasing to the eye.
As you progress into your filmmaking or content creation journey, you may be interested in color correcting your own videos. So, Today I am going to share my non-scientific tutorial on how to color correct videos.

Color correction is the process of correcting colors in a video to get them to what they should look like: The correct exposure, contrast and white balance. Whereas, color grading is the process of grading colors in a video to give them a stylistic look. Color grading is subjective but there are also some basic steps to color correction and how to do it properly that are generally accepted across the board and that is what we are going to cover today.

Lastly, when it comes to color correction, it all starts with your footage and the types of footage you will be working with. Usually you are working with LOG footage. Generally, a log video is a flat looking video with little to no saturation, where the shadows and highlights are compressed, which gives you a ton of information to work with in post production.

When filming in a LOG format, make sure to film at the correct exposure. You don't want to be blowing out any of the highlights or losing any detail in the shadows. To tell if you are correctly exposed in camera, Your camera should have a waveform or histogram tool to help you visually see where your exposure lies, make sure everything is somewhere in the middle of the wave form, and you should be good.

If you end up going a little over or under in each direction, I have a little trick coming up to help you out.

We will be working with 3 clips today to show different environments and situations you might run into when color correcting your footage.

All of these were shot on the Sony A7S III and in Slog3.

Now that we have all of that out of the way, let's get started!
