Located in Chestnut Hill, Mass., Longyear Museum is an independent historical museum dedicated to advancing the understanding of the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science.

The colorful restored “Turkish” rocker described in this video stood in the West Room of 400 Beacon Street, from where Mrs. Eddy occasionally enjoyed evening views and quiet conversation. (In the 19th century, the term “Turkish” was often used to describe furniture that was generously cushioned and comfortable—such as armchairs, sofas, and divans.)
