Forough Farrokhzad was a poet, screenwriter, painter, and filmmaker. She was born in Mazandaran, north of Tehran, to a large family. She wrote and read a lot as a child, before dropping out of high school to study painting and dress making. She married early and worked as a seamstress, while writing her first collection of poetry, The Captive (1955). After a divorce, she moved to Tehran....


Sylvia Plath’s mirror and Forough Farrokhzad’s the bird may die are two of the best known poems in the aspect of femininity, fighting for feminine rights and equality. The two poets though living distances apart, respectively in America and Iran, had the same poetic perspectives.
