The Rubin Museum, dedicated to art from Tibet, Nepal, and the Himalayan regions, has permanently closed its New York space after 20 years. Founded in 2004 by Donald and Shelley Rubin, it showcased a rich collection of Himalayan art, including scroll paintings, thangkas, and Buddhas, alongside contemporary exhibitions. The Tibetan Buddhist shrine room was a significant feature, designed to evoke a spiritual atmosphere. Regular visitors, Tibetan art enthusiasts, and Tibetans have expressed their sadness over the closure. Kunleng invites Tenzin Gelek, Senior Specialist, Himalayan Arts and Culture at Rubin Museum, to discuss the museum's role as a bridge between Tibet and the world, highlighting the cultural loss it represents.
