The Ineos Grenadier is an ingenious re-invention of the modern 4x4

It is a kind of spiritual successor of the classic Land Rover Defender but actually shares zero parts with the Defender.

The Grenadier was developed from scratch by Ineos, a new company, using a BMW 6-cyl. diesel with 249 HP or a 6-cylinder petrol engine with 286 HP, combined with an 8-speed transmission from ZF. The Grenadier is built at a bespoke factory in Hambach in France and they have capacity to build around 25,000 Grenadiers per year. It went on sale in 2023.
This is a Grenadier Trialmaster petrol, a vehicle that will both turn heads and conquer terrains.

Importantly, you get a large 90 liter fuel tank as standard, good thing, because the petrol consumption is about 13-14 liters/100 KM. It has robust steel spring suspension which makes it a proper old school off-roader, taking inspiration from the classic 4x4s but packed with modern engineering. Its boxy, utilitarian design isn't just for looks—every inch is built for functionality.

In today’s market there isn’t much competition, really, unless you want a used Land Rover Defender, and they are 8 years or older. I’d say that the new 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70-series is the most direct competitor but it is not available in Europe or in the US. And then there is Jeep Wrangler joining in together with the current Land Rover Defender 110.

Inside, the Trialmaster offers a blend of durability and comfort. While the interior might look simple and straightforward, it's packed with hidden features. The controls are laid out well and are easy to use, even when you're wearing gloves. The seats are designed for long journeys, providing great support whether you're on the highway or tackling rough trails.

The Grenadier happily cruises with 100 km/h or so and it is surprisingly comfortable and quiet. And there is zero squeek or rattle, the doors close very solidly. The Grenadier is built like a tank – so robust that Ineos gives a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Go faster than 100 km/h and it is not that great. But hey, it is an off-roader, so let us go off-road instead! The Grenadier's off-road capabilities are impressive. With a robust ladder-frame chassis, permanent 4x4 and lockable center, rear and front differentials, it's built to handle the toughest conditions. You have 264 mm ground clearance as standard and a wading depth of 800mm.

The Grenadier can be made ready for any expedition, and there are plenty of additional accessories to customize your Grenadier.

So, there you have it - the Ineos Grenadier Trialmaster Petrol.
