It's November 1987. Ford recently gave its fabled Thunderbird a $250k refresh to help bolster depressing sales numbers. In the process, the transformation gave birth to the sportiest, most aerodynamic Thunderbird built to date: the 190hp Turbo Coupe, with its iconic "Aero Bird" grill-less nose.
The SVO Turbo engine easily made it the most unique car in its class, but was it the right fit for this athletic grand touring machine?
As a bright new 1988 model arrived at our headquarters for testing, we decided to find out for ourselves.
