Radio Lady is the final track of Brown Bag Blues, and is the fantasy story of a lifetime obsession with radio. The illustration is based on a real time and place, a six year old boy in his parents’ bed in the 1950s, staying home from school, turning the wooden knobs and listening to the sounds of a pre WW2 Zenith table radio with a vividly luminous multicoloured dial that featured the shortwave and police bands as well as the standard broadcast band. The background vocal is provided by Linda’s opera singing eldest son Sasha, a prominent boy soprano turned baritone in his teens. The drawing for this song was the most detailed and time consuming of the book, over 14 hours in the making.

Any resemblance between the Radio Lady and Janis Joplin is purely coincidental, though seeing the little known young Janis singing her heart and soul out made a profound impression on a 19 year old back in the sixties!

The album was released as a combination of a book and cassette sold separately or together. All songs were written and performed by Linda Rogers and Rick Van Krugel, and all instrumental playing by Rick Van Krugel unless otherwise noted. With one exception, all the drawings in the book that accompany the songs or poems are by Rick Van Krugel.
