The cucumbers, zucchini, green beans and string beans from the vegetable garden are going like hotcakes. The blackberries along the little road across the street I can't leave dangling. Time to harvest and experiment with pickling, drying, canning, making jam and fermenting. If that works out a bit, we'll have taken another step towards self-sufficiency.

I have already tasted the blackberry jam and it tastes great. Whether the same goes for the pickled, jarred and fermented vegetables? No idea. It looks nice now, but whether it will still be like that in a few months, no idea. It is one big experiment.
