A powerful spiritual song from the pen of the German Christian mystic, Gerhard Tersteegen (1697-1769) which was later translated from the German by Frances Bevan. I love your photo in the video that typifies the magical seductive nature of the world- bright coloured lights, happy sayings etc. The man we see in the centre of the photo, who is on the street, is perhaps looking to find joy but doesn't look so joyful. He may be looking for happiness, but he's looking in the wrong place. The bright lights shown in the photo also partially swamp out the words of the song - making it sometimes hard to make them out. Likewise - the attempted seduction of the world tries to drown out , even for the Christian, God's voice calling us to Himself for fellowship, for intimacy, for true joy, true peace and true love. God speaks to us even through our flirtation with 'the world, the flesh and the devil'. He tells us that He is enough for us and that it is only in Him that we can find true satisfaction. Will we heed His call?
