Here the Cuban sandwich was born in the oldest restaurant in Florida, which is also the oldest Hispanic restaurant in the United States.
We started our day by changing hotels from Clearwater Beach to Tampa.
If you're looking for where to stay in Tampa Bay, the Holidat Inn Hotel in Rocky Point is a great option. After breakfast at the hotel we headed to Downtown Tampa to take the Pirate Water Taxi. One of the main attractions of Tampa is a boat ride on the river, where Tampa Bay meets the fresh water. If you're lucky, you'll be able to spot manatees on your way upstream. One of the Water Taxi stops is the stop at Armature Works (Stop 16) which has a public market and many restaurants. If you're wondering where to eat in Tampa? Armature Works is the option for a delicious brunch.
We left our car parked in front of Sparkman Wharf, a very convenient location where the Water Taxi and Tampa's TECO Line Streetcar System meet. After finishing our river boat ride, we took the streetcar to visit Ybor City. The Tampa streetcar system is a 2.7-mile service that runs throughout downtown Tampa through the Channel District and Ybor City. The system features an exact historical replica of the original tram cars.
The tram line is called TECO and is free today. It has extended services in the morning and until late at night.
If you're wondering where to dine in Tampa? The Columbia Restaurant is one of the best options because it is the oldest restaurant in Florida and the United States!
With a varied menu of Cuban, Spanish and Latin American food. The famous Cuban sandwich was invented here. We also learned how to make an authentic Cava sangria, but the full video on how to do it will be linked above in the separate video.
As is customary at Backpackzo, we mention many travel tips and advice, making this video a complete travel guide. We return to Sparkman Wharf which is a modern waterfront with trendy shops and restaurants, a beer garden and street food stalls. Here we had some craft beers and we were able to stay until sunset. At Sparman Wharf we finished our day and our trip through Tampa Bay.
