The section of National Road No. 1 that connects from Monivong Bridge to Tse Basa Bridge (Neak Leung Bridge) will be rehabilitated after the agreement between Cambodia and Japan. In addition to the renovation project, both sides are also studying the construction of a new bridge connecting National Road No. to the Arey Ksat area. On September 16, 2024, Mr. Chhim Phalla, Director of the Road Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, led the Ministry's Technical Working Group on a meeting on the topic of priority projects in the Southern Economic Corridor of Cambodia under the chairmanship of HE Chhuon. Samreth, Director General of the General Department of International Cooperation and Debt Management of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with the participation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).



After listening to a detailed presentation on the benefits and importance of the development of Cambodia's Southern Economic Corridor and through in-depth discussions under the interpretation of the Technical Advisor of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the whole meeting agreed to Initial feasibility studies on the improvement of National Road No. 1 from Monivong Bridge to Tse Basa Bridge (Neak Leung Bridge) and the construction of a bridge connecting National Road No. 1 across the Mekong River to the Arey Ksat area.
