Lisa Batiashvili’s new album “City Lights” crosses genres, mixes memories, places, sounds and music to powerful and haunting effect, taking the listener across the world with eleven carefully chosen pieces. Each of the special arrangements offers a multi-layered musical portrait of a city that is important to Batiashvili. The music of Michel Legrand is something that Batiashvili remembers listening to since she was a child. “Paris Violon” reflects the fact that her husband is French and has lived most of his life in Paris. Batiashvili’s own personal history is even woven into the arrangement, as conductor and arranger Nikoloz Rachveli reveals: “Lisa’s husband is a great oboe player, and that’s why there are two or three moments when the violin and oboe have a duet.”
