Maxine Phoenix was at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about her work in the upcoming animated series, 'Cradle,' which is based on the series by Will White. The show is directed by Jay Oliva and also stars the voices of Phil LaMarr and Morla Gorrondona.

• Phoenix plays a key antagonist and mentor figure in the animated series "Cradle," describing the character as fierce, sensitive, and one of the best-written female roles she’s had.
• She's proud to voice her character and feels the role can be an inspiring figure for women and girls due to the character's strength and individuality.
• The recording process took about 4 hours, but Phoenix spent extra time perfecting the accent, practicing it while doing everyday tasks like making coffee.
• Phoenix developed a unique accent for the character, blending Russian, Scottish, and Nordic influences, drawing inspiration from characters like Melisandre from "Game of Thrones."
• She felt apprehensive during the audition process but trusted her instincts and hoped the accent and her interpretation would resonate with the creators.
• The character offers something unique in animation, as Phoenix notes there hasn't been a female character like this in animated series before, and she hopes younger audiences can look up to her.
• The voice acting involved heavy breath control for action scenes like sword fights, running, and jumping, which Phoenix enjoyed and found freeing.
• Direction and collaboration were key in the studio, with Phoenix valuing the feedback from the series' director Jay Oliva and writer Will White, who had a clear vision for the project.
• Working solo but with creator support, Phoenix hasn’t met the rest of the cast yet but appreciated working closely with writer Will, who was supportive and alleviated her nerves.
• Fans of the "Cradle" book series already connect with the character, and Phoenix hopes the animated adaptation amplifies that connection, highlighting the emotional journey of the main character.
