This July my saxophone was stolen. I have been trying out instruments all over Italy and decided to make videos both for my own selection process, but also to help others interested in comparing vintage instruments.
In this video I compared two King Super 20 Silver Sonic tenors. The first one (1956) I didn't like too much, it felt kind of closed and flat to me. The second one (1948) was a beautiful instrument, and reminded me how beautiful these tenors can be. I still feel like they are somewhat less agile than the Conns and Selmers I love, but to my ears, nothing comes close to the low end and subtone of these horns.
I am using a Francois Louis T 315 ML Spectruoso mouthpiece. I used no compression, reverb or EQ. This was recorded with a Zoom Q2 HD video recorder.
Thanks to Attilio Berni for allowing me to try these instruments.
