This year, as a result of the pandemic, kayaking has become much more popular. It is an outdoor activity where you can maintain good social distance, learn a new skill, and have some fun. Back in May I ordered a white water kayak, actually it’s a crossover which is good for flat water as well, but because of an increase in factory orders and a factory shutdown, I still don’t have my kayak. I wanted to bring it with me to Colorado and spend some time on the Arkansas River, learning how to use it. So, what I did instead was to sign up for a beginner kayaking course here in Buena Vista, where the outfitter provides all the gear, including the kayak. It was a full day course along an easy section of the Arkansas upstream of Salida. River flow rate was fairly low, not so good for rafting, but still okay for kayaking. I was able to capture some this on GoPro, and put together a short video of my day on the Arkansas.
