In 1898 to 1915, Woodcutters clear felled the area round Jaurdi using axes and handsaws. They cut down trees to use as props in the underground mines to hold up the hanging walls and to use as firewood for power stations and pumping stations for water.
This wouldn't have been possible without the Woodline companies in the Goldfields.
The trees were cut into 5 foot lengths (firewood), put on a horse and cart and carted to the temporary tram lines for transport back to Kalgoorlie.
These are the woodlines that we are trying to find now.
The trees and scenes that we see out bush now are all regrown since 1915.
