Recently I purchased a 2021 KICKR Smart Trainer from Wahoo and it comes stock with a Sun Race 11-speed cassette. I personally run a SRAM 12-speed cassette on my Specialized Allez Sprint which is my main road race bike. I couldn't find much good information on the internet explaining how to swap your free hub body on the Wahoo KICKR to be compatible with a new SRAM 12-speed cassette.

After a bit of research, I found that you need to install an XD/XDR Freehub Body, Wahoo does provide this kit so you can use that, but most local bike shops have them as well. I was lucky enough to pick up an XD/XDR Freehub Body from UCCyclery here in San Diego when I actually picked up the new 2021 KICKR Smart Trainer.

In this video, I walk you through the precise steps to take to pull off the original 11-speed cassette and get a new SRAM 12-speed installed and ready to ride.

To be clear, you don't need to shift for basic intervals on the KICKR Smart Trainer as it has built in ERG mode that is compatible with TranerRoad, Zwift, and other indoor cycling training apps.

Ideally though, the new KICKR will allow full range of shifting with a SRAM setup for Zwift racing and non-ERG applications once the XD/XDR hub is installed and ready to go.
