Hello and welcome to Reviving History- this week's episodes will be about the Franklin Nashville campaign and the fall of John Bell Hood. The campaign has interested me for many years because Hood himself is such an interesting figure. Before he took command of the army of Tennessee he commanded nothing more than a division and suddenly he was trusted into commanding arguably the worst and most corrupt army in the whole war on both sides. On top of that, he was facing arguably one of the best Generals in American history, Sherman's. What I want to talk about today is Hood's final attempt at winning the war. His attempted campaign north into Tennessee to rally support and manpower and to answer the question of whether Hood is a good general or an example of the peter principle.
