Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3, Chapter 25, titled "The Glories of Devotional Service," is a conversation between Lord Kapila, an incarnation of Vishnu, and His mother, Devahuti. Kapila begins by explaining the nature of the material world, where living beings are entangled due to ignorance and attachment to the material body and its pleasures. He emphasizes that true liberation comes from turning one’s mind toward the Supreme Lord through the practice of bhakti-yoga (devotional service). Such devotees do not seek liberation for its own sake but desire to serve the Lord eternally. By cultivating devotion, one becomes free from attachment to the temporary pleasures of the material world and instead experiences the bliss of a direct relationship with the Supreme. Kapila contrasts this with those who pursue knowledge or austerities without devotion, explaining that only bhakti can lead to the complete dissolution of material bondage.

Finally, Kapila highlights the transformative power of association with pure devotees. Through their influence, even materialistic people can develop faith and devotion to the Lord. Devotees serve as living examples of how to practice bhakti and attain liberation. Kapila concludes by encouraging Devahuti to take up the path of devotional service, assuring her that it is the most effective means to attain lasting peace, spiritual knowledge, and the ultimate goal of life: eternal service to the Supreme Lord.
