The story of Assam's Manas National Park is a complex one. In the 1980s, political unrest devastated its forests, leading to extensive poaching and habitat destruction. However, in the early 2000s, local youth, the forest department, and the new government united to restore the park. Today, Manas is a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage site and a biodiversity hotspot.
We trace the journey of Manas and its people, and learn why while Manas may have recovered, its guardians deserve more.
