In this week's easy macro photography tutorial I head out into the rain and put my flash to use taking images of insects and mushrooms. I show how I compose my shot, how I use my camera settings and how I bring in my wireless off-camera flash to help add a dramatic look to the image.

I also give my tips and tricks for working with lighting for macro that I hope is easy for beginners and more experienced photographers alike.

I like to work with flash in a way that creates mood, drama and intrigue in my shots, in the way you might do with portrait photography. For me, this requires using the flash off the camera in order to give direction to the light and to create shadows. This is my personal preference and I hope I've shown some good examples of why I shoot like this.
