Join us for a hike to the Desert Queen Mine and the Eagle Cliff Mine and Cabin in Joshua Tree National Park. We felt like we were stepping back in time as we explored the remains of abandoned mine shafts and equipment, a rock house, and the remarkably well-preserved Eagle Cliff Miner’s Cabin. This 3.8-mile hike took us through sandy washes, past towering rock formations, spiky cactus, a few Joshua Trees and Pinyon Pines with the bonus of a few boulders to scramble over. We started from the Pine City Trailhead (Elev 4,445') at the northern end of Desert Queen Mine Road north of Park Boulevard.

The Eagle Cliff Mine cabin was believed to have been constructed by miners sometime after 1890. The cabin was constructed in a naturally occurring grouping of boulders using rocks and other materials to fill in the gaps including a glass window. Various benches, rusty pots and pans and glass jars are scattered about.

We plan on returning to explore the Pine City Trail and Lucky Boy Trail which also start from the Pine City Trailhead.
