Today I'm going to show you how to make the best aviation cocktail! This pre-prohibition classic was created as an ode to the aeronautical industry. Around the time there were multiple cocktails that went by the name "aviation cocktail", but the recipe that stuck was created by Hugo Ensslin and published in 1916. This is a bright and floral gin-based cocktail that's known for the purple hue given by the crème de violette (a liqueur made from crushed violet flowers). Though this drink has citrus, over the years I have come to stir this one because it maintains a stronger shade of purple. In this video I will compare the stirred version to that of the shaken and we'll discuss the effects each has on the final outcome. Cheers!
