BHUR BHUVA SVAHA
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
DHI YO YONAH PRACHODAYAT

The Gayatri Mantra is directed to the energy of the sun as Sun God, to his immanent and transcendent divinity. This Mantra has infinite potentiality. It is a formula full of vitality and vibration. It has an immense power, that of the sun, which is the deity that presides over it and gives it an extraordinary energy and power that really amazes.

In her iconography, the goddess frequently appears seated on a red lotus flower (which means wealth), with five heads and ten eyes (looking down, up, and in all eight directions) and ten arms that hold all the weapons of Vishnu (mace and disc among others). Represents incarnations of goddesses like Parvati, Sarasvati, etc. Sometimes as the goddess of education, she has only two arms, with which she holds a book and a lota (metal container). In these cases it is accompanied by a swan.

Etymologically the word Gayatri comes from Gayat: to sing with the soul and from Tri (trana): liberation.
Gayatri then means: Sing liberation with the soul.

Gayatri means that which saves when it is repeated, that which redeems, which liberates, which protects the one who sings it.

In India each deity has its Gayatri. The repetition of this Gayatri will associate the one who practices it with the power of the invoked Divine Entity.

Why does the GAYATRI MANTRA protect?

Because Gayatri is the Mother, the force that animates all life.

Gayatri Mantra is the embodiment of all divine potentials.

Chanting the Gayatri Mantra grants, encourages and sharpens the faculty of human knowledge.

If the Gayatri is chanted habitually, various types of powers could emerge in the Self.

This Universal Prayer calls for a clear intellect so that Truth can be reflected in it without distortion.

It can be repeated always and everywhere.

One of the most appropriate times to repeat this mantra is while bathing. When we take the bath we clean our bodies; and it is good to also make our minds and intellect clean. Other appropriate times may be before each meal; when we wake up and when we go to sleep. It is also good to accompany it with the Shanti (peace) mantra three times at the end, because that repetition gives peace to the three entities that we have: body, mind and soul ".

The Gayatri Mantra has the three elements that figure in the worship of God.

The first nine words of the mantra represent the attributes of Divinity. Dhimahi refers to meditation. Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat is the prayer to the Lord. The mantra is thus a prayer to God to confer all powers and talents.
