These lovely little parcels of wet -felted soap are a great project for beginning felters, great for children and teenagers to make as a school project or fund raiser and also really good for the super elderly. For older people there is a definite benefit in this as a great way of exercising your hands and fingers to keep them strong and agile.
But , more importantly , these felted soaps are a great way of extending the life of those special soaps you have been given. You know, the ones that smell great and make your bathroom smell good as well. Once you start using them, the soap stays in the wool and so does the soap's fragrance.
Did you know that wool is antibacterial? Wet felted soap will never go 'off' or mouldy. Other benefits are that the soap is easier to hold in your hand as it is not slippery, the wool acts as a loofah and is great for very dirty hands and exfoliating rough skin.
In this video I am trying to minimise the potential loss of soap when making a felted cover for your soap. I also introduce the idea of solar felting. Wet felting projects definitely benefit from a little rest in the sun on a hot day.
Do get in touch if you have any questions.
Thank you Chris Haugen for the music.
