Two years have passed after the defeat of Gruntilda, who was accidentally caught under a rock when she fell from her castle in the first game. Klungo, her servant, tried to get her out for two years without success. But two of the evil witch's sisters arrive at Spiral Mountain, driving an excavator vehicle to rescue her. Meanwhile, at Banjo's house, Banjo, Kazooie, Bottles, and Mumbo Jumbo play cards, games in which Kazooie cheats. In an attempt to cheat, Kazooie tells everyone that Gruntilda is outside the house so they all turn around and steal their money. After some tremors generated by the Gruntilda sisters' vehicle, they decide to suspend the game for a moment. Mumbo decides to go out to find out such a reason (since apparently Kazooie did not want to go out because it was very dark and it scared him). Mumbo watches Klungo and the witches, who by means of a spell lift the rock that was trapping Gruntilda and release it. Mumbo plans to alert the heroes but is discovered and a bony and undernourished Gruntilda goes after him casting spell after spell without succeeding. When Mumbo breaks the news, no one believes him. Banjo seeing lights and hearing various strange sounds outside his house immediately leaves. However, Bottles remains inside because of his suspicions about a cheating attempt at the card game. "Grunty" locates it and fires an energy shot that destroys the house with Bottles inside. Then she and her sisters leave the region, not without first leaving creatures to undo the entire area. At dawn, those who were able to witness the death of Bottles and in his memory decide to search for Grunty, not knowing that Klungo was waiting to face them.

Banjo-Tooie is the sequel to the 1998 Nintendo 64 game called Banjo-Kazooie. It was released on November 1, 2000 for the Nintendo 64 console. Created by Rareware, its main characters are Banjo and Kazooie from the popular original game.
