This video shows what size wire to buy when installing or upgrading an electric service panel.

The type of wire to use in most instances is service entrance cable (SEC).

Since residential dwellings (houses) only use a single phase service, adjustment factors for more than 3 current carrying conductors should be ignored (unless you have more than 3 hot conductors in a raceway or conduit which is more than likely you don’t). If you feel as if ambient temperature may apply in your case, then you will have to perform a residential load calculation and apply the ambient temperature correction to your final tally. (Load calculations are not discussed on this video). Chances are this chart will apply to you unless you live in the south or southwest.
