Join curators Christina Hellmich and Hillary Olcott for a virtual conversation about the Thomas G. Fowler Collection, a remarkable holding of nearly 400 works by Indigenous artists from the Arctic. They will be joined by Chuna McIntyre, a Central Yup’ik performer and author, for a presentation combining song, dance, and object-based discussion. Following the presentation, join us for a Q&A session with Hillary Olcott and Chuna McIntyre.

This webinar coincides with the de Young’s recent new publication of Yua, Spirit of the Arctic: Highlights from the Thomas G. Fowler Collection, which combines art historical and anthropological essays with lively personal accounts from modern artists and scholars to explore the connection between humans and the environment, the interwoven nature of the spiritual and the quotidian, and the aesthetics of Arctic life.
