Artists require time to research and develop new work. It’s not just for the emerging generation but this necessity is a life-long requirement and supporting this process is at the core of Academy activity. In this talk, the RSA Director, Colin Greenslade, will journey through Frances’ long career, stopping to discuss areas where significant support has assisted new and exciting bodies of work in her continuum of practice. From travels through post-war Eastern Europe to Iceland, across the highlands, islands and coastal zones of Scotland, to Finland in the North and Antarctica in the South, her works chronicle human existence and absence in our wildest places.
