The Bible tells us God has ordained everything that happens for his glory and the eternal joy of his redeemed people. But enemies within and around us can make us wonder if God is good enough, wise enough, or strong enough to accomplish his purposes. What keeps our hope alive through the discouragements and defeats of this life? God's love is expressed in giving his only Son for our salvation. As J.I. Packer put it, “Divine love is a function of omnipotence, and has at its heart an almighty purpose to bless which cannot be thwarted. This sovereign resolve is referred to…as 'the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.'” Whether battling condemnation, seeking to overcome sin's power, or persevering to the end, Christ's love for us will always be steadfast, unchanging, and the source of indomitable joy.
