Enjoy the streets and walkways of Zapopan, the other historic side, part of the Metropolitan Zone of Guadalajara. Here are the key points you should visit one afternoon downtown.

When you arrive, you will have as a reference the Arcos de Zapopan, a historic monument of gray quarry stone in memory of the founders of the city. Built in 1982 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city. Designed by architect Guillermo González Ibarra and his wife, sculptor María del Carmen Rábago.

Of colonial style and with more than 20 meters of height, in this old entrance you will be able to see different sculptures, tops adorned with vases, an eagle, below Diana the hunter and to the sides Teopilzintli the child of the corn and the goddess Centeotl.

The Plaza de las Americas Juan Pablo II is also known as the esplanade of the Basilica of Zapopan, this place is a meeting point for many, either to go for a carafe snow, or for a short walk. Decorated with pink quarry stone, a kiosk, planters and benches to sit and watch the people go by.

Obviously, the Basilica is a must-see when visiting the heart of Zapopan's Historic Center. This sanctuary, built in 1690, is famous for being a key point for many people who come from far away to visit the Virgin of Zapopan.

It is also known for being the meeting point for thousands of people every October 12th, date in which the return of the Virgin to the Basilica is celebrated, the largest pilgrimage in the region, called "La Romería".

If you enter, come to see the image of the Virgin, a work of art from the XVI century. Did you know that it is built with corn cane and wood by the indigenous people of Michoacan? On your way out, be sure to visit the Huichol Museum, where you can admire works of indigenous art.

After touring the Plaza de las Americas, I recommend you continue along the Andador 20 de Noviembre, where different bars, stores, restaurants and cafes, are the cause of giving life and unique atmosphere to this area.

The different food stands are a must in this place, don't miss the delicious gorditas de nata. In addition, this is the scene of various cultural events, whether it is live music, workshops, markets and more. Welcome, you are in the heart of Zapopan!

The MAZ Museo Arte de Zapopan was opened in 2002 and is a must-see as a visitor to Zapopan. Right in the middle of the arches that welcome you to the town and with the Basilica in the background, you will find this modern building, designed by Enrique Toussaint, impossible to miss thanks to its large red doors.

This place is the home of temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, which have positioned the precinct as one of the most relevant in the region on that subject. Be sure to visit its most recent exhibitions.
