These two species of orchid bees came in to a few drops of Eucalyptol that I placed on this branch. Check out the specialised brushes on the front feet (that probably have a cool jargon-y name that I don't know) that these males use to collect the scent from the branch; eventually the compounds the males collect (usually from several species of co-evolved orchids instead of my eye-dropper) will be used in some sort of signal to female orchid bees, though I think it's still unclear exactly how this works.

In the background music- chestnut-mandibled toucan (Dios te ve in Spanish for obvious reasons- also fondly known as the Catholic guilt bird...), fulvous-vented euphonia, lesser greenlet, red-capped manakin, western slaty antshrike, and white-shouldered tanager.
