Irish Rail's General Motors built 201 & 071 class locos hauling freight and BREL Mark 2 & 3 stock on Dublin Heuston - Waterford - Dublin Heuston passenger services in the Thomastown & Bennettsbridge area of Co. Kilkenny during May & June of 1996. The 3,200 horsepower 201s (the most powerful diesel loco to run on the network to date) had only recently been acquired by IÉ from GM in Ontario, Canada and were making their first appearances on the Waterford line.
