After staying at Springer Mountain I had less than a mile to the southern terminus of the AT. Getting to the terminus was an emotional moment for me. It was early in the morning and I had the spot to myself for a while. At one point I laid down next to the sign and just rested. After saying a goodbye to the trail, I hiked the 8ish miles of the approach trail to meet up with Elise, which would be another emotional moment. We were finally reunited after months apart and drove to Gatlinburg to celebrate. I wound up finishing my hike on Thanksgiving and, lucky for us, Guy Fieri's newly opened Flavortown restaurant had an all you can eat buffet. I ate pounds of food and rested for a while, content with my calories and proud of my massive accomplishment.
