Why should you remove only one of your Speedplay cleat covers?
Speedplay pedals are revered for their dual side ease of cleating in and their durability. As their cleat surface is metal, they will outlast the plastic Shimano and Look cleats by a huge timeframe. I was keen to try them out for myself.
The reality for me, was that the cleating in wasn't as smooth as I had hoped. That was until I lost a cleat cover, and things improved significantly. What a stroke of luck!
When I transitioned to Speedplay, I was also surprised by the complexity of the installation process and the cost of the cleats. The other pedal / cleat systems are far simpler and cheaper.
Speedplay does have the advantage of adjustable float and more rotation available if needed, which is beneficial for injury prevention. Overall I'm glad i switched to Speedplay, and glad I lost a cleat cover!
