Predicting the risk of pesticide resistance in agricultural arthropod pests

How can we predict the risk of pesticide resistance evolving in agricultural pests? Join Dr. Josh Thia as he discusses the advances that have been made in resistance prediction by using product registration as a proxy for pesticide usage. He’ll explain how pests evolve resistance, how we can use that knowledge to predict resistance risk, and how we can use this information to guide long lasting, pro-active resistance control plans.

Dr. Josh Thia is an evolutionary biologist who is a postdoc at the University of Melbourne with Professor Ary Hoffmann and Associate Professor Paul Umina. He’s investigating the molecular mechanisms of pesticide resistance in key insect and mite pests in the Australian grains industry.
