Stainless steel hygienic couplings are used in such demanding sectors as food industry, cosmetics, pharmaceutical industry, chemical industry and biotechnology. The most common hygienic couplings include DIN 11851 couplings, SMS couplings, Triclover (Triclamp) couplings, RJT couplings, IDF couplings. A measure of the hygienic design of the coupling is its easy cleanability, sterilisation without dismantling (CIP, SIP), use of certain materials (AISI304 or AISI316 stainless steel must be used). The design of the coupling must be free from crevices, dead spaces, angular bends or rough surfaces. The hygienic couplings must be welded using methods that produce high quality welds compliant with hygienic standards. If seals made of elastomer or plastic are used, they also must be compliant with these standards.
