Based on my experience, when people say, "Doing a lot of Exercise A hurts," often it's because they only do the exercises that they want to do and not because they're doing A lot.
Those with wrist pain obsess over exercises that require the wrists to hurt. Those with shoulder pain obsess over exercises that use the shoulder in one direction.
