Last week Apple announced that Stage Manager, one of the key features of the upcoming iPadOS 16, will be available for even older, Non-M1 iPads.
With the last week released iPadOS 16.1 Beta - this feature became available to older iPad Pros from 2018 (iPad Pro 3rd Gen) and 2020 (iPad Pro 4th Gen).

I tested this on my old iPad Pro 2018 for a week.
