Portland & Western's 663/664, also known as the BN Hauler, is a run-through manifest train on the P&W system, making runs between Eugene, OR and Vancouver, WA, traversing various lines on the PNWR system such as the Oregon Election District and the Willsburg District.
The train itself was a turn job operated by the BN/BNSF, as well as much of the territory the train operates on, mainly the former OE. Like many other Class II/III operations, BNSF relieved themselves of the railroad lines and the train, handing it over to Genesee and Wyoming under the Portland & Western.
We'll follow the 66 on a northbound run to Vancouver, starting at Tigard, and ending the day at Lakeyard, where the train's crew ran out of hours. Normally the train is able to cover a lot more territory in a day, however, the hauler waited for five hours at Milwaukie to enter the UP Brooklyn Sub, which they use to reach the BNSF at Portland.
More PNWR content will be coming to Sunset Rail Multimedia in the future, as we continue to take a bigger look into this interesting regional railroad!
