Two campers, thinking they have rescued an orphan fawn and hand it in to the ranger station, are horrified to find out that it wasn't abandoned at all, but left alone by the doe for only a few moments and that their handling of it will cause the doe to reject it. Saddened that the fawn was now destined to remain in captivity, they go back to their campsite while Ranger Corey and a fellow ranger build a pen for the fawn prior to turning it over to the Game Warden. But Lassie has other plans - namely to convince the doe to come "rescue" her fawn from captivity.
