In the running for my favorite outboard of all time is this 1955 Johnson QD-16 10hp. This motor came to me from another AOMCI member who purchased it from an old dealership and thought I'd like it - he was right! It is a well maintained and lightly used original motor, it came with a small tag "Hopkinson" a name that stuck.

OMC was on a roll in 1955 offering excellent outboards in HP ranges from 3 to 25hp. This QD was an excellent value costing $310 when new. It is quiet, smooth, powerful, light-weight and fuel efficient - everything an outboard should be even today! Needing the usual coil replacement, carb rebuild and impeller, this motor runs as well today as when new. When it comes to outboard motors, they don't come any better than this - and it looks great to boot!

Parts are still available for these motors directy from your Evinrude/Johnson dealer or aftermarket through Sierra Marine and others.

I had to re-upload this video because I tried the You Tube suggested fix for shaky video - it made the outboard look like it was made of Jello! I couldn't un-do it so I needed to delete and reload it.
