True Redemption
Sophomore June Welch of Woodruff High School makes herstory becoming the first female to win a State Title in South Carolina High School Wrestling.
Welch was previously defeated by her state opponent Eduardo De Paz in the 3A Upper State Championship. She was able to bounce back and make her mark after training with her coaches and studying De Paz’s take downs. In the state final, Welch was able to focus on her breathing and counter attacks. Before the decision by pin Welch led 15-2. (2/26/22)
