We finally made it to the entrance...after looking at a chicken... now begins the hike to the edge of a volcano! There were many others
also walking up to the top instead of driving! Stunning views to look at while you're out of breath! Then funny adventures in the tunnel.
According to the hawaiistateparks website it's $1 to walk in, but now apparently it's $5, plus a "reservation" which they don't hold you to it, at least
if you're walking in. Parking seems more limited.
Once you make it officially in, there's tons to read and learn
before your hike, a tiny gift shop, nice picnic area, and bathrooms
(make sure you use before your hike, there's none once you begin the hike)

If you're not a avid or even casual hiker, take your time or it will
/take your breath.. it's only about 3/4s of a mile but
it's not a smoothly paved hike, but rather more "nature-y" as I'll call it.
So the sounds of many many steps but amazing views that got better and better, and many photo opportunities!

Soon you'll find yourself at the first flight of stairs, and that's the sign you're almost at the top! there's another tunnel and then a fork in the road. I'll save you decision time here, go left! Also, as you hike you never know what the mind may come up with, specifically, my moms...
The color of the pacific ocean was amazing. How the color fades from dark blue a pretty light teal!
Diamond Head stands at an elevation of 762 feet above sea level.
When measured from the crater floor, the Diamond Head Mountain
towers to 560 feet. The U.S. government purchased Diamond Head Crater in 1905 and developed around 720 acres into Fort Ruger. Post World War II, the facilities were upgraded, including the addition of anti-aircraft batteries to the crater’s rim. Also, there's a lighthouse, Diamond Head lighthouse
Made it to the top.. and found the bugs or should i say
the bugs found us, and our faces and ears and nose and eyes.
so through the bug we saw the postcard perfect Waikiki beach.

The hike back down was much easier with moments when it's very quiet. Make sure to look at the unique plants.

I'd also recommend, if you're going in the middle of the day like we
did, sunscreen, a hat, water, good hiking shoes, and a mind ready to
record these memories forever!
This is not the only tunnel, there are actually 7!
Allow about 2 or 2 1/2 hours for your visit, we took 3 hours but we looked at everything and took our time. I read that visitors to the park can exceed 3,000 people per day.

Tomorrow's exciting adventure is a waterfall in the RAIN! It was such
a Hawaiian Experience! Stay tuned for more fun Hawaiian adventures!

~ My name is Dani ~ A left-handed, camera carrying, brown haired blue eyed traveler who's been to 37 states and 1 country (France) unless you count Bahamas, then that'd be two. I am a traveler who is enthusiastic about photography and making videos. What I am not: a city girl that tells you what brand of clothes I am wearing, but rather am the girl who grew up with mud on her boots, hair in a ponytail, taking of horses and goats and chickens, enjoying nature and the splendor of the big beautiful sunsets to the little ladybug that lands on a clover. Also enduring the ice storms and brutal colds and scorching summers. That too. #FarmLife right there.
Now if you're a person that likes a good laugh, you're in the right company. Clever humor is my favorite. That and other peoples laughter. Guaranteed laugh out of me.
